The third smart phone from Sony’s new ‘NXT’ series has been released, joining the flagship Xperia S and budget Xperia U the new Sony Xperia P sits slap bang in the middle and is now available on O2 contract deals with further network launches on Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone expected very soon.

This first colour scheme of the Sony Xperia P is the silver edition with a black and red model soon to join the range, deals on O2 start with line rental prices of £13.50 and a free phone is available on O2 100 at £18.50 which allocates 100MB of data, 500 SMS and 100 minutes of calls to use each month, to sweeten this offer even further there is currently £20 automatic cash back available with the package.

The silver Xperia P has a slightly smaller touch screen display than the Sony Xperia S at 4 inches compared with 4.8, it uses the same BRAVIA engine graphics but also includes a screen technology called ‘WhiteMagic’ which adds in a fourth white sub-pixel and reacts to surrounding light conditions, with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution the Xperia P won’t play back video on-screen in HD like the S model but with the help of a clever docking station it can be hooked up to an HD TV via an HDMI cable and connect to USB keyboards so could even me used as a PC at home.

The housing of the phone is manufactured from aluminium and uses a unibody design which results in a modern and durable finish, this silver edition looks especially sleek with a minimalistic design approach which just sees the camera lens on the back of the phone.

Run by a dual core 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM the Xperia P has an 8 mega pixel camera which can capture full 1080p HD video and features the same Exmor-R low light technology as all four handsets in the ‘NXT’ range (the other ‘yet to be released’ phone is the Sony Xperia Sola), the camera also features 3D sweep panorama mode, LED flash, auto focus and 8 x digital zoom.

On board is 16GB of memory for storing pictures, videos and music and with access to the Google Play shop there’s plenty of room for saving downloaded applications, running Android 2.3 Sony have confirmed that the Xperia P will get an update to the 4.0 instalment of the new HTC One X, S and V in the summer.

Jelly Bean rolling out to XPERIA handsets in 2013

Waiting for Sony to roll out Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) for your XPERIA handset this year? If this is the case, we don’t recommend that you keep your hopes up. According to the Japanese firm, it will not roll out until next year, February to be exact.

The first XPERIA handset to get the Jelly Bean update in February of 2013 will be the XPERIA T, Sony’s current flagship. Following the XPERIA T, which Sony says will be updated “in due course” are the XPERIA S, XPERIA P, XPERIA J, and XPERIA Go. Sadly, Sony neglected to mention if this meant days, weeks, or even months.

If you own a Sony XPERIA released in 2011 or later, don’t expect your smartphone to get treated to Jelly Bean. The Japanese company failed to mention if they planned to roll out the latest version of Android to their past XPERIA line.

Although Sony confirmed that it would be pushing out Jelly Bean to its current XPERIA line, it will be rolling out the latest version of Android later than everyone else. Samsung, another Android manufacturer, is currently rolling out Jelly Bean to the Galaxy S3. So it’s understandable a number of Sony XPERIA handset owners are wishing they got their hands on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone instead.

We’re disappointed Sony will not be rolling out Jelly Bean to its current XPERIA line until February of 2013. By the time the latest version of Android rolls out to XPERIA phones, the Android community will be waiting for Key Lime Pie (the next version of Android) to roll out. We can only hope Sony updates their handsets at around the same time every other manufacturer rolls out updates.

Bummed Jelly Bean will not be rolled out to your XPERIA smartphone until 2013, or are you happy Sony confirmed it will be pushed out to their Android handsets? Share your thoughts through a comment on our Facebook page.

Sony makes limited gold edition XPERIA P

Sony has made a limited gold edition of the XPERIA P. The limited edition handset is made of solid gold.

You may be puzzled why the Japanese firm would make a handset clad in gold, since the economy isn’t good at all. However, it looks like Sony will not be selling these handsets. According to the company’s Facebook page, it will be giving them away.

The Sony Mobile blog says that the project is focused on highlighting the “Xperia P’s sleek unibody design and aluminium back cover”. Does this mean that it will be easy to get one of these handsets? Unfortunately, Sony only made fifteen units. If you’re looking to own one of these limited edition handsets, stay tuned for further updates on Sony’s global Facebook page next week.

You’re probably wondering why Sony decided to make a solid gold version of the XPERIA P, when its flagship is the XPERIA T. The ordinary version of the gold handset is a mid-range offering, which sports a 4-inch display with a resolution of 540×960 pixels, an 8-megapixel primary camera, and a 1GHz processor. As you can see, there are other Sony handsets that would have deserved getting a gold edition rather than the XPERIA P.

Despite Sony giving away these handsets, we’re not sure if a lot of people will go for it. True, the phone is clad in gold, but this isn’t what people are looking in a smartphone. People want the most powerful specs and all the updated features. This is what flagship Android handsets have to offer such as the HTC One X, the Samsung Galaxy S3, or the Apple iPhone 5. The only advantage of owning one of the gold editions of the XPERIA P is having a flashy handset and that’s it.

Will you be keeping an eye on Sony’s Facebook page to try and get your hands on the limited gold edition of the XPERIA P? Let us know through a comment on our Facebook page.

Sony Xperia P Getting Android Jellybean Update

imagesSony Mobile is of course hitting the headlines on account of its recently launched Xperia Z handset, which is the latest flagship Android device from the Japanese manufacturer. Although the device will face tough competition from the likes of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, it looks set to be one of the most popular Android smartphone of the year. It is certainly one of the most advanced offerings to date from Sony Mobile, and has already clocked up impressive sales figures in several markets. While the Xperia Z looks set for success in 2013, Sony appears not to have forgotten about owners of its previously launched devices, as Phones Review has reported that owners of the Sony Xperia P will soon be able to install an update to the phone’s operating system, upgrading it to Android Jellybean 4.1.2.

The website reports that the update will be rolling out shortly, and users will be able to perform the update by downloading it either over the air or by plugging it into your computer and using the Sony PC Companion app. Visit us at PhonesLimited for Sony Xperia P special offers and Sony Xperia Z contracts.

Although the Sony Xperia P has now been on the market for more than a year, it still boasts a number of appealing features, and by installing the update to its operating system will ensure that the phone remains versatile and user friendly. The update to Android 4.1.2 Jellybean will bring a package of new features to the handset like the addition of Google Now, which is a voice activated personal assistant app and project butter, which improves the responsiveness of user interface by making more efficient use of the phone’s processing power. The update will also bring a number of aesthetic changes to existing parts of the interface, like the onscreen qwerty keyboard and settings menus.

We will be sure to keep you posted as soon as we hear of any more details regarding the availability of this update to owners of the Sony Xperia P in the UK.
